Thankful!

This post is about 2 weeks late, but there’s been a lot going on since November 9th.

First…a little history. This all started on July 10th, 2008 when I was laid off from my surveying job of 8 years. After 16 months working for Humble Tile, MyChurch, Heritage Christian Church, BigStuf Events and doing contract work for Southside Church, New Hope Baptist Church, BigStuf Events, and several other organizations God has blessed me with a full-time job at BigStuf Events.

Jenn and I are so excited about this and thankful for your prayers and encouragement over the last 16 months. It has taught us a lot about who we are and God has used this time to prepare me and teach me a lot about myself.

Again, thank you all for your prayers, they are greatly appreciated.

footballI’m a huge College Football fan and come football season I love to spend my Saturday’s in front of the TV starting at 10am with College Game Day.

This year I am trying to be better about “wasting my Saturdays”.

I am trying to be better about helping my wife around the house and running errands. It’s not easy though. It requires me to be intentional about helping my wife and not giving in to the remote control and the 10 games that are on at any given moment on Saturday.

I do watch 1 game every Saturday though and it usually takes place in Athens…BETWEEN THE HEDGES.

It’s been a busy month…especially the last 3 weeks.

I’ve been to Orlando and Stone Mountain with BigStuf Events to do events for Chick-fil-A, built a set for Southside Church, programmed lighting for Southside and New Hope North & South Campuses, started a new job as Warehouse Manager for BigStuf Events, produced GroupLink twice for Southside Church, trained to be an editor for Nam Nguyen Photography, kept up the weekly responsibilities at Heritage Christian Church, and tried to spend time with Jenn at home.

A couple of my friends are always asking me how I do it. My answer is always the same and to me it’s simple:

I use my calendar. I have to or I’d be in BIG TROUBLE.

Let me show you what I’m talking about.

These are the categories on my calendar.

Calendar-2

And this is what my calendar looked like for the month of August.

(only the ones checked above are shown below)

Calendar-3

Now that August is over, we’re in Perdido Key, Florida for Labor Day, but come Tuesday, it’s back to the daily grind and a busy life!

TakenI watched the movie TAKEN for the second time tonight. Most of you have probably read this blog already (on my old site), but I feel like I need to repost it.

I have been thinking about this since I saw the movie TAKEN a few weeks ago. It’s a good movie, but the ending seems a little to Hollywood for me. My wife works for Wellspring Living, a non-profit organization that ministers to girls that have been “taken”. when I say girls, I am talking aboutteenage girls, 12-17 years old. When I say taken, I mean that they have been kidnapped and/or smuggled into the United States by people who make money selling them as prostitutes. 12-17 year old prostitutes, let that sink in for a minute.

aka SEX TRAFFICKING or SEX SLAVERY

What most people don’t understand is that it is happening right under their noses. I live 30 minutes from downtown Atlanta. Atlanta is among the TOP 3 cities in the United States for SEX TRAFFICKING/SLAVERY!

The Wellspring staff minister to these survivors by taking them in, caring for them, providing counseling and providing schooling for children that have been through God knows what. And they are supposed to “get well” in 12024 months? how can you undo a lifetime of unhealthy relationships and slavery in 12-24 months? You can’t, but as the Wellspring staff will tell you “God can” and “God does”.

Healing for these girls comes in only one way, JESUS.

I have heard this piece of a sermon delivered by Dr. S. M. Lockridge in 1976 at concerts, at youth events and in sermons many times over the last decade. I heard it again last night at North Point Live. I love this and the audio is even better than just reading it. It speaks for itself.

My King was born King.

The Bible says my King is a seven-way king.

He’s the King of the Jews; that’s a racial king.

He’s the King of Israel; that’s a national king.

He’s the King of Righteousness.

He’s the King of the Ages.

He’s the King of Heaven.

He’s the King of Glory.

He’s the King of kings, and He’s the Lord of lords.

That’s my King.

Well…I wonder, do you know Him?
